Custom Vertical Video Asset for Cirque du Soleil's Latest Big Top Touring Show ECHO
I had the privilege of returning to work with Cirque du Soleil when its newest production, ECHO, made its Pacific Northwest debut in early 2026. Through my role, I was able to attend the show as a member of the staff; however, as a longtime and passionate fan of Cirque du Soleil, I also purchased tickets to attend four additional performances.
As part of my coverage for PopWire, I had the opportunity to interview ECHO's senior publicist. Rather than publishing separate pieces, I combined my interview and performance review into a single feature article, creating a more comprehensive look at the production and its creative vision. I wanted to develop a visually engaging social media asset that would complement the written piece. Drawing inspiration from the style and structure of Cirque du Soleil's own social content, I produced a short-form vertical video incorporating key excerpts from the article.
Using existing digital assets, I upscaled and isolated two of the production's animal-inspired characters, the lion and the bull, to create dynamic visual elements. I also incorporated B-roll footage from the Cirque du Soleil press room, extracted audio from the show's soundtrack, and utilized a moving-clouds video asset that reflected the aesthetic of the official key art.
After refining the individual elements in Adobe Photoshop, I assembled the final video in Apple's Final Cut Pro. The composition began with the animated cloud footage as the background layer, followed by resized and cropped B-roll footage serving as the primary visual focus. Excerpts from my PopWire feature were then timed and placed throughout the video. The animated entries of the animal characters are introduced at the very beginning, adding movement and visual interest, while the show's memorable soundtrack tied the piece together.
Creating digital ideas that are bigger, braver and better.
